Kesugi Ridge Backpacking Course

Service Description

This 4-day backpacking course is designed to empower women to feel confident in their outdoor skills. This course includes instruction in: navigation, backcountry cooking, and backcountry camping. You’ll meet others who share the same stoke and drive for the wilderness. This space is safe and inclusive, where any ability is welcomed without judgment. Kesugi Ridge is located in Denali State Park, where we will be traveling about 20 miles over four days. We start low in a valley, making our way up to the stunning alpine where Kesugi Mountain is nestled. This trip has rainforest, alpine lakes, dramatic mountains, on-trail hiking, off-trail navigation, lots of birds and flowers, potential summits, and, if we’re lucky enough, stunning views of Denali! Pre-requisites: ● Be able to hike with a 30-40 pound backpack for 1-3 miles at a time. The more time you time spend walking/hiking with a weighted backpack before the trip, the more comfortable you will be. This is considered a beginner-intermediate course. What’s Included: ● Professional instruction before, during, and after the course ● Rentals available (i.e., tents, cooking stoves) ● Maps ● Cooking shelters ● Water filtration system ● Glitter And a bonus perk: 10% discount at Alaska Mountaineering and Hiking if you mention you’re signed up to participate in Tessa's course! What’s not included: ● Personal gear (i.e., sleeping bags, pad, backpack, personal bowl/spoon, food, etc.) We will have a meeting in person or via Zoom about meal prepping & cooking for backcountry trips, and make menus together. A complete gear list will be provided upon registration. Please note that a 50% deposit is required to reserve your spot in this course. The balance will be due 30 days prior to the course start date.
