Glacier Travel & Crevasse Rescue Course
5-day Course
Available spots
Service Description
This course focuses on basic mountaineering skills including roped glacier travel techniques, snow anchors, route-finding, snow camping, crevasse rescue skills, risk assessment, ice climbing, weather and avalanche awareness. Participants must be in good physical condition and be able to carry a heavy pack over uneven terrain, on either skis or snowshoes. Most of this course is hosted on the Matanuska Glacier, where we will travel miles back from the main parking area on snow covered glacier. We will meet at our classroom yurt outside of Palmer on Day 1 of the course for an introduction before heading out to the Matanuska Glacier. A complete gear list and daily course outline will be provided after registration is completed. Some gear is available to borrow from us - other gear is available to rent through AMH in Anchorage. We recommend that students have their own tent, sleeping bag, sleeping pad, cooking stove, food, skis or snow shoes, (we may be able to accommodate with loaning some of this gear).
