Ladies Glacier Travel & Crevasse Rescue

Service Description

This women's glacier travel and crevasse course is occurring on the Knik Glacier. We will be dropped off and picked up by Outbound Heli Adventures. The location where the Heli will unload students and gear will abound will glacier exploration possibilities. During this 5-day course, students will learn a variety of glacier travel skills including: glacier travel techniques, crevasse rescue systems, route-finding & navigation, introduction to mountaineering skills, ice climbing techniques, plus you will have the unmatched experience of camping on a glacier! This course is limited to 6 students, with 2 Instructors leading this course (Dorothy and Tessa!). Students must have prior backpacking experience, and you must be in good physical shape to attend this course. You will be required to pack and carry your own gear, including tent, food, cookstove, etc. The cost of this course includes drop off and pick up via helicopter and 5-days of course instruction. We will be flown in the R66, which has the larger capacity for passengers and gear. There are still weight restrictions and we emphasize that your packs should be under 50 pounds. Students must provide their own tent, climbing helmet, sleeping bag, food, stove. We will provide all climbing gear and ropes. We do have some equipment to rent, so please ask if you need to rent something from us. A deposit is required to reserve your spot in this course.
