Service Description

Advanced Wilderness First Aid (AWFA) is an intensive 4-day course that provides in-depth information on medical and environmental emergencies, alongside hands-on practice of backcountry first aid skills. Over 4-days students learn and hone patient assessment skills, injury management, and how to assess and treat patients in the remote environment.. This class goes into greater depth of the wilderness first aid subjects while emphasizing leadership skills. AWFA presents new skills such as litter packaging and carrying, traction splinting, chest trauma, and focuses in greater detail on managing spine and head injuries. This course also includes American Safety and Health Institute (ASHI) CPR and AED certification. Class schedule and location: 11/11-11/14/26, 9am-6pm each day. There will be an hour lunch break each day of training. This training will occur at Spirit Lake, near Kenai. This is native land and the training location is a camp facility operated by the Salamatof Native Association, and has been graciously donated by them for this training. All registrants will receive an email 7-10 days prior to the course start date that will include all important information regarding this course, including directions to the camp/training location at Spirit Lake. The AWFA course also works as a Wilderness First Responder Recertification, for current WFR's from approved organizations. Please contact us directly for more information regarding this option.
