- Wilderness First Aid - Kenai, Alaska
This 2 day WFA course is intensive and covers principles of preventing and treating wilderness injuries; ideal for those that spend time recreating, working, or living in remote settings. This training culminates in earning a nationally recognized 2 year certification through SOLO, the oldest continuously operating wilderness medical school in the world. - Wilderness EMT (WEMT)
The WEMT is 180+ hours long and combines the standard Department of Transportation Emergency (DOT) Medical Technician & State of Alaska EMT-1 curriculum with wilderness-specific medical training that focuses on long-term care (our WFR curriculum). This is a unique training course that combines the knowledge and skill for pre-hospital setting response, with the wilderness medical skills to assess and respond to emergencies when definitive care is not readily available, such as in the wilderness/remote setting. The WEMT course provides basic life support training for the pre-hospital setting including skills such as splinting, hemorrhage control, airway management, oxygen therapy, BLS CPR, medication administration, triage, rescue team management, patient transport, helicopter patient packing and safety, and so much more. The WEMT course is delivered in a hybrid format (flipped classroom). Some of the learning is done at home via weekly assignments and textbook reading so that classroom time is spent on practical skills and simulations. A scheduled ambulance ride-a-long shift (usually 8-12 hours) will also be required. Required Textbook: Emergency Care, 14th Edition/Limmer, O'Keefe - available on Amazon. This course begins Wednesday 2/3/2027 with classes occurring every Wednesday and Thursday evening 5-9p through 4/29/2027. After successful completion of all program requirements, students will be able to test for State of Alaska or National Registry EMT exams AND SOLO's WEMT Exam. This course is being held at our training facility located just 15-20 minutes outside of Palmer. - Advanced Wilderness First Aid
Advanced Wilderness First Aid (AWFA) is an intensive 4-day course that provides in-depth information on medical and environmental emergencies, alongside hands-on practice of backcountry first aid skills. Over 4-days students learn and hone patient assessment skills, injury management, and how to assess and treat patients in the remote environment.. This class goes into greater depth of the wilderness first aid subjects while emphasizing leadership skills. AWFA presents new skills such as litter packaging and carrying, traction splinting, chest trauma, and focuses in greater detail on managing spine and head injuries. This course also includes American Safety and Health Institute (ASHI) CPR and AED certification. Class schedule: 2/23-2/26/27, 8am-5pm each day. We will take an hour lunch break each day of training. You will receive an email 7-10 days prior to the course with information regarding location, schedule, and how to prepare for this course.

- Wilderness First Responder
SOLO’s Wilderness First Responder (WFR) course is the recognized industry standard for those who work as backcountry trip leaders, camp counselors, mountain guides, river guides, and ski patrollers. The WFR is the perfect course for anyone working in a position of leadership in an outdoor setting or for individuals who want a high level of wilderness medical training for extended personal backcountry trips or expeditions. This training culminates in earning a nationally recognized 3 year certification through SOLO and also includes Basic Life Support CPR certification. This course will be held over 8 days, starting 7/6/26 and culminating 7/15/26 (weekdays only). Class will run approximately 9am-6pm each day. You will receive an email about 10 days prior to the course with the address of our training facility and other important course details.
- Ladies Glacier Travel & Crevasse Rescue
This women's glacier travel and crevasse course is occurring on the Knik Glacier. We will be dropped off and picked up by Outbound Heli Adventures. The location where the Heli will unload students and gear will abound will glacier exploration possibilities. During this 5-day course, students will learn a variety of glacier travel skills including: glacier travel techniques, crevasse rescue systems, route-finding & navigation, introduction to mountaineering skills, ice climbing techniques, plus you will have the unmatched experience of camping on a glacier! This course is limited to 6 students, with 2 Instructors leading this course (Dorothy and Tessa!). Students must have prior backpacking experience, and you must be in good physical shape to attend this course. You will be required to pack and carry your own gear, including tent, food, cookstove, etc. The cost of this course includes drop off and pick up via helicopter and 5-days of course instruction. We will be flown in the R66, which has the larger capacity for passengers and gear. There are still weight restrictions and we emphasize that your packs should be under 50 pounds. Students must provide their own tent, climbing helmet, sleeping bag, food, stove. We will provide all climbing gear and ropes. We do have some equipment to rent, so please ask if you need to rent something from us. A deposit is required to reserve your spot in this course. - Youth Wilderness First Aid
This very popular program teaches the basic fundamentals of response, assessment, and treatment of injuries and medical emergencies when definitive care is not close by. Packed with hands-on learning and wilderness scenarios, the Youth WFA builds confidence and supports participants working together in a team. CPR training is also included in this program. This course is appropriate for youth ages 13-17. You will receive an email at least 7 days prior to the course with the address of our Yurt and other important course details.

- The Deltas, Eastern Alaska Range
This 6-day course is designed to empower women to build on prior outdoor skills with an epic 20+miles of glacier travel, big rocky mountains, and epic places for pitching tents and taking in the beauty of the Eastern Alaska Range. The Eastern Alaska Range, aka "The Deltas" is a truly epic playground for outdoor adventurers! This course intends to get you (yes, you!) navigating glacier terrain confidently, learning new skills, and having a fun time. You will learn how to read glaciers, how to choose paths of least resistance while bushwacking, and how to travel on terrain that can be tricky. Expect glacier travel to be slow (think ~1 mile or less an hour). But despite this, it is very rewarding and worthwhile! This trip is designed for folks who have experience backpacking and is an intermediate-advance level course. Pre-requisites: ● Can hike 8-10 miles a day with a backpack weighing between 40-50 pounds. ● Prior backpacking experience ● Comfortable hiking on uneven terrain, no trail What’s Included: ● Professional instruction before, during, and after the course ● Rentals available (i.e., tents, cooking stoves, crampons) ● Maps ● Cooking shelters ● Water filtration system ● Glitter And a bonus perk: 10% discount at Alaska Mountaineering and Hiking if you mention you’re signed up to participate in Tessa's course! What’s not included: ● Personal gear (i.e., sleeping bags, pad, backpack, personal bowl/spoon, food, etc.) We will have a meeting in person or via Zoom about meal prepping & cooking for backcountry trips, and make menus together. A complete gear list will be provided upon registration. Please note that a 50% deposit is required to reserve your spot in this course.
