- Wilderness First Responder
SOLO’s Wilderness First Responder (WFR) course is the recognized industry standard for those who work as backcountry trip leaders, camp counselors, mountain guides, river guides, and ski patrollers. The WFR is the perfect course for anyone working in a position of leadership in an outdoor setting or for individuals who want a high level of wilderness medical training for extended personal backcountry trips or expeditions. This training culminates in earning a nationally recognized 3 year certification through SOLO and also includes Basic Life Support CPR certification. This course will be held over 8 days, starting 7/6/26 and culminating 7/15/26 (weekdays only). Class will run approximately 9am-6pm each day. - Ladies Glacier Travel & Crevasse Rescue
This women's glacier travel and crevasse course is occurring on the Knik Glacier. We will be dropped off and picked up by Outbound Heli Adventures. The location where the Heli will unload students and gear will abound will glacier exploration possibilities. During this 5-day course, students will learn a variety of glacier travel skills including: glacier travel techniques, crevasse rescue systems, route-finding & navigation, introduction to mountaineering skills, ice climbing techniques, plus you will have the unmatched experience of camping on a glacier! This course is limited to 6 students, with 2 Instructors leading this course (Dorothy and Tessa!). Students must have prior backpacking experience, and you must be in good physical shape to attend this course. You will be required to pack and carry your own gear, including tent, food, cookstove, etc. The cost of this course includes drop off and pick up via helicopter and 5-days of course instruction. We will be flown in the R66, which has the larger capacity for passengers and gear. There are still weight restrictions and we emphasize that your packs should be under 50 pounds. Students must provide their own tent, climbing helmet, sleeping bag, food, stove. We will provide all climbing gear and ropes. We do have some equipment to rent, so please ask if you need to rent something from us. A deposit is required to reserve your spot in this course. - Glacier Travel & Crevasse Rescue Course
The dates for this specific course are designed as a women's glacier travel and crevasse rescue clinic. This Level 1 workshop is loaded with information to fuel your passion and interest for glacier travel and crevasse rescue. During this 3-day course you will learn basic mountaineering and glacier travel skills. Day 1 (7/17/26) we will meet at our Classroom Yurt (outside of Palmer en route to glacier) at 10am to go over equipment and learn a few knots before heading to the Matanuska Glacier. After everyone is dialed in with their gear and a few basic knots, we will reconvene at the parking lot at the toe of the glacier; about an hour drive from the Yurt. On the ice on this first day, we will begin to work on building anchors and pulley systems, climbing and belaying techniques, and roped glacier travel. Days 2 and 3 will dive deeper into glacier travel skills, crevasse rescue techniques, crevasse rescue scenarios, ice climbing skills, roped-travel techniques, fixed-line ascension skills, anchor building, running belays, route-finding, navigation and so much more. We will camp on the glacier for two nights during this course, returning to the parking lot by 5pm on Day 3, 7/19/26. Please note there is a day use fee that is due to the Matanuska Glacier Park upon entrance, which is $90 per person (total) for the 3 days, which is not included in the course fees and is the responsibility of the student when we arrive to the glacier on Day 1 of the course. A complete gear list and daily course outline will be provided after registration is completed. Some gear is available to borrow from us - other gear is available to rent through AMH in Anchorage. Group climbing gear is included in the course fees. Students must provide their own tent, sleeping bag, sleeping pad, cooking stove, food, etc. Students should have prior backpacking experience and be comfortable carrying a 30-40 pound pack over uneven terrain.

Please note this course is taught over 4 consecutive weekends, 9am-6pm each day of training.
- Wilderness First Aid
This 2 day WFA course is intensive and covers principles of preventing and treating wilderness injuries; ideal for those that spend time recreating, working, or living in remote settings. This training culminates in earning a nationally recognized 2 year certification through SOLO, the oldest continuously operating wilderness medical school in the world. CPR is also included in this training. Class is 8am-5pm each day, with an hour lunch break. Our training center is located in the Buffalo Mine Road area near Palmer. You will receive an email at least 1 week prior to the course start date with the address for this course, schedule, gear list, and other important information regarding the Wilderness First Aid Course.
- Wilderness EMT (WEMT)
The WEMT is 180+ hours long and combines the standard Department of Transportation Emergency (DOT) Medical Technician & State of Alaska EMT-1 curriculum with wilderness-specific medical training that focuses on long-term care (our WFR curriculum). This is a unique training course that combines the knowledge and skill for pre-hospital setting response, with the wilderness medical skills to assess and respond to emergencies when definitive care is not readily available. The WEMT course provides basic life support training for the pre-hospital setting including skills such as splinting, hemorrhage control, airway management, oxygen therapy, BLS CPR, medication administration, triage, rescue team management, patient transport, helicopter patient packing and safety, and so much more. The WEMT course is delivered in a hybrid format (flipped classroom). Some of the learning is done at home via weekly assignments and textbook reading so that classroom time is spent on practical skills and simulations. A scheduled ambulance ride-a-long shift (usually 8-12 hours) will also be required. Required Textbook: Emergency Care, 14th Edition/Limmer, O'Keefe - available on Amazon. This course is being held at our training center located just 15-20 minutes outside of Palmer. - Advanced Wilderness First Aid
Advanced Wilderness First Aid (AWFA) is an intensive 4-day course that provides in-depth information on medical and environmental emergencies, alongside hands-on practice of backcountry first aid skills. Over 4-days students learn and hone patient assessment skills, injury management, and how to assess and treat patients in the remote environment.. This class goes into greater depth of the wilderness first aid subjects while emphasizing leadership skills. AWFA presents new skills such as litter packaging and carrying, traction splinting, chest trauma, and focuses in greater detail on managing spine and head injuries. This course also includes American Safety and Health Institute (ASHI) CPR and AED certification. Class schedule: 2/23-2/26/27, 8am-5pm each day. We will take an hour lunch break each day of training. You will receive an email 7-10 days prior to the course with information regarding location, schedule, and how to prepare for this course.

- Wilderness Youth Safety Education (WYSE)
WYSE is designed to promote teamwork, leadership, and build outdoor skills, all through an interactive game-like atmosphere. Students learn a variety of outdoor skills such as: navigation, wildlife safety, shelter building, fire starting, wilderness first aid, rescue organization, and water safety are just a few of the skills they will be challenged with during this program. This course is appropriate for youth ages 7-13. Students must have appropriate clothing for being outdoors and bring a lunch. You will receive an email at least 7 days prior to the course with the address of our training center and other important course details.

Class schedule and location: 11/11-11/14/26 AND 12/3-12/6/26, 9am-6pm each day. There will be an hour lunch break each day of training. This training will occur at Spirit Lake, near Kenai. This is native land and the training location is a camp facility operated by the Salamatof Tribe, and has been graciously donated by them for this training. All registrants will receive an email about 14 days prior to the course start date that will include all important information regarding this course, pre-course assignments, daily schedule, gear list, and directions to the camp/training location at Spirit Lake.
- Youth Wilderness First Aid
This very popular program teaches the basic fundamentals of response, assessment, and treatment of injuries and medical emergencies when definitive care is not close by. Packed with hands-on learning and wilderness scenarios, the Youth WFA builds confidence and supports participants working together in a team. CPR training is also included in this program. This course is appropriate for youth ages 13-17. You will receive an email at least 7 days prior to the course with the address of our Yurt and other important course details.
