Wilderness EMT (WEMT)
Available spots
Service Description
The WEMT is 180+ hours long and combines the standard Department of Transportation Emergency (DOT) Medical Technician & State of Alaska EMT-1 curriculum with wilderness-specific medical training that focuses on long-term care (our WFR curriculum). This is a unique training course that combines the knowledge and skill for pre-hospital setting response, with the wilderness medical skills to assess and respond to emergencies when definitive care is not readily available. The WEMT course provides basic life support training for the pre-hospital setting including skills such as splinting, hemorrhage control, airway management, oxygen therapy, BLS CPR, medication administration, triage, rescue team management, patient transport, helicopter patient packing and safety, and so much more. The WEMT course is delivered in a hybrid format (flipped classroom). Some of the learning is done at home via weekly assignments and textbook reading so that classroom time is spent on practical skills and simulations. A scheduled ambulance ride-a-long shift (usually 8-12 hours) will also be required, scheduled outside of regular classroom hours. Required Textbook: Emergency Care, 14th Edition/Limmer, O'Keefe - available on Amazon. Workbook: Emergency Care, 14th Edition/Limmer, O'Keefe - available on amazon. Please purchase your books before the first week of class. This course runs 7/8/25-7/31/25 (M-F Schedule), 9am-5pm. A deposit of 1000.00 is required at time of registration. After successful completion of all program requirements, students will be able to test for State of Alaska or National Registry EMT exams AND SOLO's WEMT Exam. This course is being held at our training facility located just 15-20 minutes outside of Palmer.
