Service Description

The Intro to Mountaineering Course builds upon the skills introduced in a Level 1 course by adding in crevasse fall scenarios, knots, running belays, belay systems, additional anchor and raising systems, route-finding & navigation, roped glacier travel, self-arrest, peak bagging, and ice and alpine climbing techniques. This course will be conducted on the Matanuska Glacier. Be prepared to camp on the glacier during this course. A complete itinerary and gear list will be provided once the course minimum numbers are met. The 775.00 tuition includes the entrance fee to the glacier. Students must have prior multi-day backpacking experience and be in good physical shape to attend this course. Training days are generally long and students must be able to navigate difficult terrain with heavy packs. This course is limited to 10 participants, with a 6 person minimum.

Cancelation Policy

Our Cancellation Policy for each course listed below: Wilderness First Responder (WFR): Payment is due at the time of registration.  If you must cancel, please allow 1-week notice.  Course fees will be refunded minus 10% admin fee.  There are no refunds issued if you cancel less than 1-week prior to the course. Wilderness Emergency Medical Technician (WEMT): A 1000.00 deposit is due at the time of registration. The balance is due 14 days prior to course start date. If you must cancel, please do so 14 days prior to course start date to receive your full deposit minus a 10% admin fee.  There will be no refunds issued if you cancel less than 14 days prior to course start date. All other courses unless otherwise specified: Payment is due at the time of registration.  If you must cancel, please allow 72-hour notice.  Course fees will be refunded minus 10% admin fee.  There are no refunds issued if you cancel less than 72 hours prior to the course. Please note that we have a minimum number required to host our courses.  If that number is not met the course may be postponed until a later date.  In the event this occurs, a refund will be issued or you can register for another course should you choose to do so.
